Computing
At Much Woolton, our Computing curriculum is meticulously crafted around Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work, fully aligned with the National Curriculum. This comprehensive approach ensures that our pupils develop digital literacy, computational thinking, and creativity, empowering them to understand and positively influence the world around them. Through engaging lessons, students acquire skills in coding and programming, enabling them to create their own games and applications.
We recognise Computing as a vital subject that opens up opportunities for learners to become key influencers and transformational leaders at local, national, and global levels. By fostering computational thinking and operational skills, we cultivate learners who prioritise justice, equality, truth, and the common good on a global scale.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we have integrated a play-based, hands-on approach to computing, designed to align with the updated EYFS framework. Our EYFS computing curriculum focuses on developing children’s understanding of technology through exploration and experimentation. By engaging with age-appropriate technological tools and resources, children enhance their problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and creativity. This foundation prepares them for more structured computing education in Key Stages 1 and 2.
In Key Stage 1, students receive a solid grounding in the fundamentals of computing, including understanding algorithms, creating simple programs, and learning how to stay safe online. As they progress to Key Stage 2, they build upon these skills, enhancing their proficiency as both users and creators. Our curriculum aims to develop computationally aware children, teaching them concepts such as predicting and analysing results, decomposing problems, recognising patterns, and evaluating solutions—approaches that are essential for effective problem-solving.
By integrating Kapow’s Computing scheme, we ensure that our pupils become confident problem solvers, aligning with our curriculum aim of developing individuals who will become Agents for Change in an ever-evolving world. This structured programme not only meets educational standards but also inspires students to apply their skills thoughtfully and ethically, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to society.
