Much Woolton Catholic Primary School

Art & Design

At Much Woolton we believe that art is a vital part of children’s education and has a significant and valuable role in the curriculum, as well as the enrichment opportunities we offer our pupils through trips, visitors and residential opportunities. The art curriculum will develop children’s critical abilities and understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through studying a diverse range of artists. Children will develop their understanding of the visual language of art with effective teaching and considered sequences of lessons and experiences. Understanding of the visual elements of art and design (line, tone, texture, colour, pattern, shape, 3D form) will be developed by providing a curriculum which will enable children to reach their full potential.

Art is a sacred subject

Art is a spiritual encounter exposing the learner to a profound level of communication and expression which transcends the spoken word, it offers the artist and the observer the opportunity to transcend the here and now. Through artistic expression the learner is enabled to comment on profound social issues and spiritual experiences offering a window into God’s divine creation. Art, incorporating a wide variety of craft and design embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity.
