Mathematics
What is Mathematics?
‘It is only a systematic effort of solving puzzles posed by nature.’ — Shakuntala Devi
At Much Woolton, pupils are taught to explore problems, investigate methods and develop independent problem solving skills whilst journaling their ideas and learning. To do this, we use ‘The Mastery Approach’ to teaching, supported by the ‘Maths- No Problem!’ resources and NCETM documents. By using the mastery approach, we aim to develop a deeper understanding of maths in all learners. We want children to enjoy maths and understand the importance of maths in real life situations. We are dedicated to providing a relevant, fun and engaging maths curriculum for all of our pupils.
How is Maths a sacred subject?
The ultimate purpose of Maths is the pursuit of truth. The thinking skills inherent in the math curriculum should inspire and enable learners to be innovative, creative, critical and analytical learners. Exploring the beauty of mathematics enables all learners to engage with the transcendent dimensions of life, freeing them to be pioneers, trailblazers and the inventors needed today and in the future. The real- world context comes first, and the theory comes second.
